Chefs for Kids provides nutrition education through financial support to the University of Nevada, Reno's Extension Produce Pick of the Month program. A portion of Chefs for Kids funding helps place educators into at-risk schools teaching children monthly how to make healthy eating choices.
Produce Pick of the Month extends far beyond the school as the children take this knowledge home and share it with their parents.
Impact facts include:
- 39% of students reported increasing their fruit consumption
- 46% of students reported increasing vegetable consumption
- 76% of parents stated that their children were more willing to try new fruits and vegetables than they were previously
- Fliers persuaded parents to purchase more fruits and vegetables than they normally did
