Bookin’ it to Booker ES!

February 9, 2023

Thursday, Feb. 9 marked the last week of a three week back-to-back marathon of hosting Cookin’ Up Breakfast. This time we visited our friends at Kermit R. Booker Sr. ES. The culinary team from The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas sponsored this breakfast, and they definitely showed up and showed out with a delicious menu of: Brioche French Toast with mixed berry compote and sugar free syrup; Lite Breakfast Quesadilla with scrambled egg, whole wheat tortilla, turkey bacon bits, and mozzarella; Fruit Kebab with melon, pineapple and kiwi.

A tray of food including French toast with berry compote, a quesadilla, fruit kebab, milk, and plasticware.

This breakfast is the perfect example of how you can make small tweaks to a regular “splurge” meal and make it healthier. For example, substituting sugar free syrup, using a whole wheat instead of a flour tortilla and turkey bacon instead of pork bacon, which is fattier. Just a few small tweaks can make a big difference while still having a great flavor. Kids all around the room could be heard saying “Wow, this tastes great,” or “Guys, guys, this is awesome!”

One student shared how enamored they were with the fact that there were so many chefs there to serve. The students notice and appreciate the special attention they are getting on this day. As much as the teachers try to prepare the kids for these breakfasts, nothing tells the story like walking into a cafeteria full of chefs ready to hand you a warm delicious meal. The way these kids’ eyes light up when they walk in the room is magical.

Speaking of special attention, our friends from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Bolden Area Command made a special visit to mix and mingle with the kiddos. We are honored to have them at our event and enjoy seeing the community come together to support our kiddos.

A female police offer carries a tray of food for a female student while other students are seated enjoying breakfast.

A big thank you to everyone who came out and made this breakfast a magical experience.
