Having a Grand Time at Cunningham ES

April 17, 2024

A chef from Luxor Las Vegas serves breakfast to students from Myrtle Tate ES

Our friends from the culinary team at Mandalay Bay and Luxor Las Vegas were back in the school cafeteria for an encore flavorful feast as they cooked up 760 meals for students and staff from Cunningham ES.

On the plate was the hit menu from their recent visit to Rex Bell ES: corn dogs with sausage and pancakes “on a stick,” accompanied by mini cheesy egg bites, hash browns, a fruit skewer, and a scratch-made blueberry poptart in the school colors of Cunningham ES, that we’re sure even Taylor Swift would approve of.

Executive Chef Justin Frederickson shared with Channel 3, who came out to cover the breakfast, that the entire team had such a great time with the kids and staff.

“When we come and we roll in … and we give them little chef hats that they get to wear, and they come to the line, they grab their meal, just the look on their face is priceless, and that’s what we do it for,” Fredrickson said.

They even received this cute piece of artwork from a second grade student.

We’re grateful to the team for jumping in and picking up a second breakfast within one month. It was an all hands on deck effort with teams from the banquets, stewarding, global procurement, leadership and chef teams all pitching in more than 435 volunteer hours combined to help prep the breakfast, load the truck, deliver the food, plus load out and clean up. Without your dedication for putting smiles on our kids’ faces, and delicious food in their tummies, they may otherwise have to go without.

Speaking of culinary partners – we want to take a moment during National Volunteer Month to give an extra special thank you to the culinary teams at the following MGM Resorts International’s properties: MGM Grand, Four Seasons, Aria, and Mandalay Bay/Luxor. Your combined efforts throughout the year feeds approximately 3,500 students and staff at our schools. That is a huge accomplishment, and we definitely could not have our Cookin’ Up Breakfast program without the crucial support provided from culinary partners like you!

Additionally, thank you to our friends at ACF Chefs Las Vegas and Hospitality Culinaire who are always on-hand to serve up smiles at our breakfasts! We also can’t forget to thank our friends at Anderson Dairy for the milk at every breakfast, and the Guy Fieri Foundation for their generous support to make the Cookin’ Up Breakfast program possible.
