High Fives for Breakfast!
October 21, 2024
This month we were back in the cafeteria serving up smiles to more than 650 students and staff at Halle Hewetson ES. The breakfast was cooked up by the culinary club guided by the chef team at College of Southern Nevada and included: a Breakfast Scramble featuring turkey sausage, tater tots, cheese, real eggs and spinach accompanied by Carrot Cake Oatmeal Breakfast Bars and Fresh Fruit.
As excited as the kids were to have a special, healthy meal, they were also very excited by the special appearance of CSN’s school mascot, Cooper the Coyote. As kids were entering the cafeteria, many were giving him hugs, high fives, and even super high fives with an added jump.
While we get lots of smiles at our breakfasts…
…we also sometimes get a few funny faces!
Our culinary partners go above and beyond to create memorable breakfast experiences for our kids filled with new, healthy, foods that kids may not have tried before. And while we see lots of smiles and hear the word “yum” quite often, sometimes we get funny faces, and “yucks.” The important thing is that we are exposing kids to new ways of eating healthy, getting them to try new foods (especially fruits and vegetables).
We couldn’t possibly do this without our amazing village of people who support our cookin’ up breakfast program. Special thanks to Jamba Juice for the delicious smoothies and Anderson Dairy for donating the milk for every breakfast… and to the milkman who is always one of the first people on the scene!
And thank you to the Chefs for Kids board of directors and members of ACF Chefs Las Vegas who come out to volunteer at every breakfast. From the volunteers at ACF Chefs Las Vegas and local businesses and organizations, like CSN, who cook up, and help serve, these delicious healthy breakfasts!
