Pancakes, Peer Helpers & Powerful Moments

June 1, 2026

Two kids eat breakfast at a school

There’s something extra special about a Cookin’ Up Breakfast morning. Before the first bell rings, the cafeteria begins to buzz with excitement as students peek around corners, eager to see what’s on the menu and which chefs are serving breakfast that day. For many students, these mornings are about much more than a meal, they’re about feeling cared for, celebrated, and seen.

The delicious breakfast served at Lomie G. Heard ES was generously prepared by the incredible culinary team from ARIA Resort & Casino. Students enjoyed a restaurant-worthy spread featuring an egg muffin, chicken apple sausage, fresh fruit salad, and a sweet, nutritious favorite, banana pancakes served with maple-flavored Greek yogurt. To top it all off, our longtime friends at Jamba Juice provided refreshing smoothies that quickly became the star of the morning.

One student summed up the experience perfectly when they said, “It’s like eating at a restaurant.”

That simple comment is a powerful reminder of why Cookin’ Up Breakfast matters so much.

Yes, these breakfasts help fill hungry bellies and provide students with nutritious meals to start their school day. But they also provide something equally important: experiences. For some students, this may be the first time they’ve tried banana pancakes or sat down to enjoy a thoughtfully plated breakfast that feels special and exciting. These moments build confidence, spark curiosity around healthy foods, and show students that their community cares deeply about them.

This breakfast also came with a beautiful reminder of the power of kindness and peer support.

Students from the National Elementary Honor Society stepped up as special helpers throughout the morning, escorting younger students to their seats, helping unwrap utensils, cutting food when needed, and making sure everyone felt welcome. Watching students help students was one of the most heartwarming parts of the day. Their leadership and compassion perfectly reflected the spirit of Cookin’ Up Breakfast, a community coming together to care for one another.

At the end of the breakfast, the entire crew, chefs, volunteers, and NEHS students alike, gathered together for a group photo, celebrating a successful morning filled with smiles, teamwork, and full stomachs.

A huge thank you to the chefs of ARIA Resort & Casino for donating their time and talent to create such a memorable breakfast experience. Thank you as well to our amazing partners at Jamba Juice for the smoothies that students look forward to every time. And of course, thank you to our incredible volunteers who help bring these mornings to life.
