The Best Day Ever: Cookin’ Up Breakfast Returns for New School Year
October 8, 2026

The excitement was contagious at Sister Robert Joseph Bailey ES as Chefs for Kids kicked off the school year with the return of Cookin’ Up Breakfast, and judging by the smiles, cheers and enthusiastic reviews from students, it was a breakfast worth celebrating.
As students made their way into the cafeteria, they were greeted by a special group of volunteers ready to help start their morning with a little extra fun. In addition to our Chefs for Kids Board Members and volunteers from ACF Chefs Las Vegas, Ms. Clark County Alexis Keppler and Mrs. Nevada Katherine Rosenberger-Martin were on-site lending a hand, helping prepare Chefs for Kids hats and placing them on students’ heads as they entered.

And the kids wasted no time sharing their reviews.
“This is the best day ever!”
“This looks like a buffet!”
One teacher shared an especially sweet example of just how much Cookin’ Up Breakfast means to her students. When she told her class that Chefs for Kids would be providing breakfast the following morning, one student was so excited that he compared it to Christmas and actually skipped all the way home from school.
That kind of excitement is exactly what Cookin’ Up Breakfast is all about.

Breakfast With a Side of Fun
Of course, there was plenty of delicious food to fuel all that enthusiasm. As always, teachers eat first, before students get their turn to enjoy breakfast. We want to give a huge shout out to first time culinary partners, the team from Levy Restaurants/T-Mobile Arena. We had one spot to fill and the date was creeping up fast for our first breakfast of the year, and they did not hesitate to jump in and make it happen. 😎
The morning’s menu included an egg and cheese muffin, crepe snack, fruit, and milk generously provided by Anderson Dairy. And because breakfast is even better with a little extra flavor, our friends at Jamba Juice were on hand serving up their delicious strawberry smoothies.

More Than a Meal
For many students, a breakfast like this is more than simply a meal. It’s an opportunity to try new foods, enjoy fresh and nutritious options, and start the school day feeling energized and ready to learn.
Through Cookin’ Up Breakfast, Chefs for Kids works to make sure children have access to nutritious food while creating positive experiences around healthy eating. For students who may not always know where their next meal is coming from, a nourishing breakfast can make an important difference in their day.
But if the first Cookin’ Up Breakfast of the school year taught us anything, it’s that the program delivers something else, too: joy.
It’s the joy of walking into a cafeteria and seeing a breakfast spread that looks like a buffet. It’s the excitement of putting on a chef’s hat and feeling like part of the team. It’s the anticipation of a strawberry smoothie. And sometimes, it’s the kind of excitement that sends a child skipping home because they can’t wait for tomorrow.
We’re grateful to everyone who helped make the morning special from our dedicated chefs and community partners to our wonderful volunteers and school staff who help bring Cookin’ Up Breakfast to life.
Here’s to a school year filled with nutritious meals, new food adventures and plenty more “best day ever” moments!
