A Little Luck, a Lot of Love

Volunteers Stand in Front of Food Bags Packed at Holiday Helpings

The week before Spring Break should feel like a countdown to fun. For too many kids, it’s a countdown to uncertainty.

That’s where Chefs for Kids steps in—showing up with fresh, healthy food and a reminder that someone cares.

This year, with Spring Break landing just before St. Patrick’s Day, we leaned into a theme of luck—but what we’re really creating is something much more meaningful. Not luck. Opportunity.

Kids were invited to get hands-on with their food, building shamrocks and a vibrant “Tree of Life” out of fresh produce. It wasn’t just about making something fun—it was about helping them see food differently. To spark curiosity. To turn something unfamiliar into something exciting.

Because sometimes, a strawberry or a kiwi isn’t just a snack, it’s a first taste.

Each ingredient in their bags came with a purpose:

Kiwi to support digestion, immunity, and heart health.

Green grapes to help regulate blood pressure and support overall wellness.

Honeydew to hydrate and nourish growing bodies.

Pomegranate to fight inflammation and protect cells.

Carrots to strengthen vision and boost the immune system.

Behind the scenes, generosity was in full swing. Volunteers from Plus Credit Union rolled up their sleeves to help pack each bag with care—turning simple ingredients into something that can make a real difference for a family.

Programs like Holiday Helpings exist for a critical reason. When school doors close for breaks, so does access to consistent meals for many children, so we invite the schools to help us identify families who need extra support the most.

Before each break, those families receive more than just food. They receive fresh fruits and vegetables, nutrition education, and small moments of joy—activities, games, and tools that make healthy choices feel possible and approachable at home.

Because fighting hunger isn’t just about feeding kids today. It’s about giving families the knowledge and confidence to build healthier tomorrows.

But we can’t do it alone.

If you’ve ever wondered how you can make a real, tangible impact—this is it. Whether you volunteer your time or support as a sponsor, you become part of the reason a child doesn’t go hungry over break. Join us. Help us turn moments of uncertainty into moments of care.
