“This is Like the Luxury Place”
May 21, 2026

One of the stories we often share to show the true impact of our program begins with something small—a single strawberry. A little girl once held one up, turned it over in her hands, and asked, “what is this”?
It’s a simple moment, but it speaks volumes. Because while many of us grow up taking for granted the foods on our plate, for some children, even the most basic experiences with fresh, healthy ingredients are entirely new.
At Chefs for Kids, we intentionally serve the communities that need it most. We partner with Title I schools where at least half of the students are SNAP-eligible and then go even deeper, focusing on schools where nearly every child qualifies for free or reduced-price meals. Today, that means supporting 21 schools and community centers where, on average, 53% of students are SNAP-eligible and an overwhelming 98.86% rely on free or reduced lunch programs.
Those numbers matter, but the reality behind them matters more.
Many of the children we serve live in food deserts, where access to fresh, nutritious meals is limited. For many, opportunities to explore new foods or to step outside their immediate neighborhood are rare. So when they walked into a breakfast prepared by the talented chefs of Bellagio and Park MGM, it wasn’t just a meal. It was an experience.
Tables filled with beautifully prepared dishes. Chefs in their coats. The kind of attention to detail most people associate with a visit to the Las Vegas Strip.
On the menu: Scrambled Eggs; Bacon, Spinach, and Cheese Egg Bites; Apple Chicken Sausage; Mini-Waffle; Fingerling Potatoes; Danish; Berry Yogurt; and a Fruit Cup.

And the reactions said it all.
“This is sick.”
“That is so cool.”
“Oh my gosh.”
“This is like the luxury place.”
One discerning child even said, “I take things seriously but this is so impressing. Because they have all this stuff like chef hats while you eat delicious food.”

At that moment, breakfast became something bigger. It became an inspiration.
Cookin’ Up Breakfast isn’t just about feeding hungry bellies, though that is essential. It’s about opening doors. It’s about introducing a child to a strawberry for the first time, and also showing them what’s possible beyond their current world. It’s about sparking curiosity, building confidence, and planting seeds for future careers in hospitality and the culinary arts.
It’s about giving kids a seat at the table, and sometimes for the very first time.
If you believe every child deserves access to nutritious meals, new experiences, and the opportunity to dream bigger, we invite you to be part of this mission. Donate today and help us continue Cookin’ Up Breakfasts that nourish, inspire, and change lives.
