Whipping Up Fun at Wendell Williams

As students are preparing to taste the sweet freedom of Summer break, we ventured out to one last school for a mighty Cookin’ Up Breakfast. On May 11, 2023, our healthy eating heroes from around the community joined forces to provide the kids at Wendell Williams Elementary School a good breakfast.

Students and staff alike delighted in the culinary creations from Chef Dave Simmons and the Downtown Project including: Ranch Scrambled Eggs, Hickory Bacon, Apple Chicken Sausage, Hash Brown Patties, Fresh Seasonal Fruit, and Assorted Muffins. The menu got approval as we could hear many kids saying things like “yum” and “this tastes delicious.” Thank you to Chef Dave who has been a wonderful supporter of Chefs for Kids for many many years. We appreciate you!

Also on hand were a few special friends. We welcomed our healthy eating heroes at Southwest Gas to join us for breakfast. Southwest Gas has been a wonderful supporter of Chefs for Kids, nearly since its inception. This year, employees decided to add Chefs for Kids to its Fuel for Life employee giving program, and we couldn’t be more grateful. We’ve had a lot of fun going out to Southwest Gas offices and meeting with employees to tell them about our wonderful program, but nothing beats seeing it in person. Several of their staff members decided to roll up their sleeves and get to work volunteering to pass out hats and serve food at Wendell Williams. Thank you Southwest Gas for all that you do for our organization!

Our friends at Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Bolden Area Command also made a special visit to say hello to the kids.

We love seeing the community come together to support our kids and are grateful for all of our healthy eating heroes who help to make this happen. As much fun as it was, the breakfast was also bittersweet as our chefs said goodbye to the kiddos for summer. We already can’t wait for next year!
