Whisking Up Scholarship

There’s a passionate foodie in all of us, but few take it to the next level and make a career out of it. If you’re in the latter group, Chefs for Kids wants you to apply for the Michael Ty Culinary Award.

We are excited to enter a new era of programming at Chefs for Kids, now offering scholarships to help future chefs get out of the confines of their kitchen and into the world of culinary education.

The Michael Ty Culinary Award is named after one of our founders and steadfast supporters in our first 30 years of existence – Michael Ty, CEC, AAC, HOF. In addition to his work with Chefs for Kids, Michael was dedicated to advancing the culinary community. During his many decades in the American Culinary Federation, he mentored several fellow culinarians at all levels in their career. He also believed in educating and mentoring future generations of culinarians. He supported several young culinarian competitions in any way he could; including mentoring chefs participating in Chaîne’s Young Chefs program, and established annual funding for one student participant.

Michael always gave with a humble, open heart, and his family continues his legacy of giving and volunteerism to this day. The Michael Ty Culinary Award has been created in his honor to provide academic financial aid to the next generation of culinarians in Southern Nevada.

Here’s what you need to know: 

Who is eligible: The Michael Ty Culinary Award will be given to two Nevada students (one high school senior and one current college student) pursuing a career in culinary, restaurant management, or a food service related program.

The Prize: The award includes $1,500 towards tuition and/or school-related expenses, and a surprise gift bag valued at a minimum of $100.
